Everything begins in the early eighties; a sugar cane alcohol, produced on Nosy Be Island, interests Lucien Fohine. He discovers that the refinery settled on this island produces an alcohol with unique and persistent flavours. He deduces that it is due to the roots of ylang-ylang entangled with those of the cane, and to the aromas of clove trees, pepper plants and vanilla, which grow in abundance in the region. . In real precursor, he implements the idea which is going to revolutionize the market of the rum in Madagascar: he makes his rums mature in the oak barrels in which the Scottish distillers send him the scotch whisky he buys to distribute on the Big Island. Rum DZAMA is born from this passion, and has become the n°1 in Madagascar.
