LA PASSION DES TERROIRS
La Passion des Terroirs
It was in 1993 at the annual Banff Spring Wine festival that I first met Gonzague Lurton, owner of Durfort Vivens. He told me that his father Lucien had just created a new company with all of his 10 children to manage and promote the 11 or 12 estates he had purchased over a lifetime! Gonzague was (and still is) reserved, precise and passionate about his estate and his wine. During my numerous visits to Bordeaux, I met all the family, all sharing the same passion for their terroir’.
LES ETABLISSEMENTS JEAN PIERRE MOUEIX
Coming from the Coreze area (centre part of France) Jean Pierre Moueix settled in St Emilion (chateau Fonroque) in 1929. Borrowing from the family, seven years later, he started a négotiant venture based in the nearby city of Libournes. For many years, all profit will be re-invested in estate acquisitions. Within a few decades, he will become the "lord" of Pomerol purchasing Lafleur Petrus, Lafleur Gazin, Trotannoy, Petrus and Magdelaine in St Emilion. His second son Christian followed the same creative spirit and added a few more estates, Providence, Hosana, Belair. Edouard represents the third generation and already proves to be born with the same blood!
MAISON DUCLOT
One of the largest Négociants from Bordeaux, the company and its many affiliates (Chateauprimeur, Chateaunet, L’ Intendant…Petrus…) was largely developed by the eldest son of JP Moueix: Jean Francois before his charismatic and entrepreneur son Jean took the helm about 10 years ago.
PETRUS
Pomerol
The wines of Pomerol have never been classified, but chateau Petrus is widely regarded as the top estate. It is a single plot of 11.4 hectares on the top-hill of the plateau de Pomerol called “La Boutonniere”. The grape variety is only merlot but its uniqueness comes from the fact that it is the only vineyard where the topsoil and subsoil consist of rich blue clay with high iron content. This clay provides a natural source of nutrition and water even during very dry summer. The other particularity of Petrus is also its distribution has the entire production is sold every vintage without any holding but for the library. The property today belongs to the Moueix family. In 2007, after 44 vintages the renowned oenologist Jean Claude Berrouet ceded the wine making responsibility to his son Olivier.
SCEA du CHATEAU LAFLEUR
ST EMILION
VIGNOBLES JEAN LOUIS TROCARD
JOHNATHAN MALTUS
St Emilion
Jonathan is a imposing man not only by his size but of course by his determination to succeed. In 1994, after buying Chateau Teyssier in St. Emilion he probably did not realize how difficult it would be for a wealthy engineer from Tanzania to settle and survive in this exclusive part of the world surrounded by sceptical and sometimes hostile neighbours. He learned fast and well and today is receiving world recognition for his fantastic cuvées.
CHATEAU DOMPIERRE
Pauillac
LES PRIMEURS

Starting with the vintage 1990, Marc has been proposing Bordeaux from the "en Primeurs" program. Primarily, we represent two prominent Bordelaises families: The Moueix and the Lurton. The ancestors of the family included barrel makers, wine makers and stone sculptors. Today Fabrice, the young brilliant oenologist, is gradually taking over from his father René.
MAS DEL PERIE
For me, young Fabien Jouves is one of the great artists able to transcend the purity of the grapes into a perfect wine truly reflecting the different terroirs, which nursed the vines. His Malbec can be seen as a reference. These wines are exclusively available through Kensington Wine Market in Calgary and Crestwood Fine Wines in Edmonton.
COGNAC GODET
La Rochelle

The Verdier family is well known in the Loire Valley. Originally from the Saumur area, they establish their new home, in this historic estate. In the library, they found parchments dating back to the early 14th century proving the existence of vineyards on this estate. In another book dating from 1635, the term Muscadet is mentioned for the first time.
DOMAINE DU CLOSEL
Savennieres
There is no doubt that the best expression of the dry chenin blanc comes from the tiny vineyard of Savenieres heart and soul of the Anjou region. It is said that the cepage was introduced from his native Pannonia to the region by St Martin bishop of Tours in the 5th century. Today over 80% of this appelation produce a wine issued from bio dynamic viticultural method! By far the highest percentage of any other appelation in the world. At Nobilis, we are very proud to offer, from very small crop groomed to perfection, the handcrafted wine from Comtesse Evelyne de Pontbriand.
VIGNOBLES LAFFOURCADE
Chaume
Since 1958, the name Laffourcade is associated with Quart de Chaume when Andre purchased 19 hectares out of the 43 of this appellation. His son Pascal pursued his father’s vision by acquiring not only Cht de L’Echarderie (original and historical estate of the appellation immortalized by the Lord of La Guerche claiming as a rent, during the middle age, the best quarter of the vintage) but also Cht Perray-Jouannet, in the heart of Bonnezeaux. He also enter into a life long lease with Baron Brincard obtaining “Clos de la Royaute”, a superb 3.2 hectares from Savennieres. The exclusive collection of premium chenin blanc was completed.
MOULIN TOUCHAIS
To date, eight generations of the Touchais family have owned and managed the mile long cellars and surrounding vineyards in the Coteaux du Layon appellation. Here the vinification techniques are particular as 20% of the grapes will be early picked to preserve the acidity but the remaining will be late harvested to concentrate the sugar. Bottled the following spring, 10 years of cellaring will be necessary before releasing the wine.
LANGLOIS-CHATEAU
In 1896, Jeanne Chateau was 19 years old when she married the handsome and young wine maker Edouard Langlois. 16 years later, with the help of the Baron of Bodman they founded their own company named Langlois-Chateau. Edouard was killed during the war and Jeanne took over the management soon helped by her son-in-law and later her son. In 1973 Champagne Bollinger acquired a majority ownership and kept developing the house under a tradition of the highest quality standards.
CHATEAU DE PARNAY
Mathias Levron and Regis Vincenot are reviving this estate once owned by Antoine Cristal, businessman and then precursor and visionary vintner from the early 1900's. By the end of 2013, a five star international hotel will be welcoming guests from all horizons.
DOMAINE LEFIEF
It is right after the Second World War that Gerald Lefief's great uncle left his native Poland for a better life in the Loire valley. His daughter married a Lefief 8th generation wine maker and merged the two vineyards for their son Gerard who sold it to his cousin: Gerald.
DOMAINE DE LA NOBLAIE

DOMAINE DE LA MINOTIERE
Pays d' Auge
Domaine de la Minotiere, located in the heart of Normandy “pays D’Auge”, has been producing cider using ancestral methods for centuries. The orchard is planted with many varieties of cider apples (Bisquet, Binet rouge, Clos Renaux, Peau de Chien, Petit jaune), each building the unique personality of this organic cider.
CALVADOS PIERRE HUET
Pays d' Auge
Without any doubt, the best ciders and Calvados of Normandy are produced in the a small region called: "Le Pays d' Auge". Based in Cambremer, the house Pierre Huet was founded in 1865. They are today one of the remaining handful of independent commercial "cidrerie" of Calvados. Few years ago, animated by the same passion of his uncles, Cyrill Marchand-Huet left his executive position at Fauchon in Paris to take up the challenge of bringing back to its past glory this once most popular French brandy. We hope you will share the same passion for perfection!
